$915 RAISED
FOR THE HUCKLEBERRY FUND! |
The raffle officially began at 11:00pm EST on Monday, November 8, 1999. In the first
week, we raised $440, and by the day of the raffle, November 23rd, we raised $960 in
pledges! In the end, $915 of that was collected and sent to Terry Chapman and Terry Green
of Major and Planned Giving Department of the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (actually,
the last straggling $20 still needs to be sent, but hopefully will go out tomorrow, 1/21).
The incredible response by far exceeded all of my expectations, but it was foolish of
me to underestimate the good hearts of the members of the Bronze. The money we
raised for the Huckleberry Fund would not have been possible without the support of the
following Bronzers:

Thanks, guys, for your contributions and your support. This whole venture
would not have been possible without you.
Thanks also to my employer, William Gallagher Associates, for the donation of $50.
And a special thanks for the contributions of Christopher Golden, Nancy Holder, and
Bronzer delf. Thank you all so much for your help. |

GRAND PRIZE
WINNERS ARE ANNOUNCED! |
On November 23, 1999, the winners of the Buffy Bear Raffle to Support the Huckleberry Fund
were announced on the buffy.com Posting Board at 7:30pm EST (16:30 Board Time). The
raffle was held in Massachusetts at Polgara's home; in attendance were OzLady, DoBoy,
Darklady, Megdalen, Claris, and of course, Polgara. 368 tickets were placed in a
bag, the bag was suitably shaken, and Megdalen pulled the lucky name of the Grand Prize
Winner - Gwen! After much shouting and cheering, Megdalen then
pulled the name of the Second Prize Winner - wolfguard! The names
were then announced on the Posting Board.Gwen, as our Grand Prize Winner, received the
Limited Edition Promo Buffy Bear, as well as the autographed copy of Immortal, signed by
both Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder, and a collection of Buffy books signed by
Nancy. wolfguard received the Barq's and Buffy Halloween Bash T-Shirt; the March
1999 copy of Detour magazine with Sarah Michelle Gellar on the cover; and the
November 1999 issue of Toy Fare magazine with the new Buffy figurine on the
cover.
Congratulations again, Gwen and wolfguard! |
HOW THE
RAFFLE
CAME TO BE |
On Tuesday, October 26th, I attended the Barq’s and Buffy Halloween
Bash, the charity event held by Coca Cola, Joss Whedon and Marti Noxon to benefit the Los
Angeles Childrens Hospital’s Huckleberry Program. This program provides medical aid
to special risk children, children who have run away or who come from dangerous or
unfortunate home lives. (Click here for more information about
this worthwhile charity.) I’d been thinking about that party a lot once I was home.
I remembered all those Coca Cola employees who paid for tickets in order to be there that
night. I thought of that really large check presented to the hospital. And I couldn't help
but wonder, why was I there? I didn’t pay for anything. I didn’t contribute
anything. I didn’t make any kind of donation. In fact, I and every other contest
winner actually cost them money. That trip and that party were a gift to us. They
didn’t have to include us, but they did.
Thank you, Joss and Marti, Coca-Cola and Warner Brothers, for inviting us.
I decided that I wanted to give something to the hospital that shared their evening
with us, not just from me, but from everyone at the Bronze. The night of the party all the
guests were given a Limited Edition Buffy Bear, a purple beanie bear with gold embroidery
and the word PROMO on the shoulder. This very special bear, to my knowledge, would not be
available in stores, and therefore I decided to raffle the Buffy Bear to the members of
the Bronze to benefit the Huckleberry Fund.
The raffle was made available only to the members of the buffy.com Posting Board,
die-hard fans with a true commitment, not only to their favorite show Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, but to the show's creator, Joss Whedon. The bear was my gift to my fellow
fans, and our donations are our gift to the Huckleberry Fund. |

NEWSFLASH:
NANCY HOLDER SUPPORTS THE HUCKLEBERRY FUND!
(11/21/99)
In the first week of the Buffy Bear Raffle, the members of the
Bronze raised over $500 in pledges, an excellent start. In the second and final week of
the raffle, Christopher Golden donated an autographed copy of his newest
Buffy novel Immortal, the first in hopefully a long line of Buffy hardcovers. Now
Chris' partner in crime, Nancy Holder, co-author of Immortal, has offered to add
her signature to the same book! Nancy came on the board Saturday, 11/20, decided the
Huckleberry Fund was a great cause, and offered to contribute. This makes the book a rare
gem indeed, since how often do you find Chris and Nancy in the same place signing
autographs? Not often!
Thank you, Nancy and Chris, for making this wonderful
contribution to the Huckleberry Fund Raffle! |
NEWSFLASH:
MORE DONATIONS BY BRONZER EXTRAORDINAIRE
Thanks to the generous contributions of Bronzer delf,
we now have two magazines to offer, alongside a Barq's and Buffy Halloween Bash T Shirt,
as a Second Prize. The first is a sealed November 1999 issue of Toy Fare
magazine, with the new Prophecy Girl figure on the cover; and the second is the March 1999
issue of Detour with Sarah Michelle Gellar on the cover.
Thank you, delf! |

Gatekeeper Trilogy, has donated an autographed copy of his newest Buffy novel Immortal,
the first in hopefully a long line of Buffy hardcovers. This book, along with the Buffy
Bear, will go to the grand prize winner of the raffle.
Thank you, Chris! |
