Visions 1999 Part Four So we went home (my sister and I share an apartment), and we watched the many videos I had purchased at the con. (I don't know if they were bootleg or not, so I won't go into further details about those.) And we waited for the phone to ring. And it did. But it was Rebecca, calling to see if he had called yet. So we chatted until my sister noisily reminded me that I was tying up the non-call-waiting phone. And we watched more videos. And we got ready for bed. And the phone rang at 11:30pm. But it was my friend Stephanie, whom we'd left a message for earlier describing our James encounter. And we booted her off the phone to wait some more. So off to bed we went, me with the phone right next to my head. But of course, who the hell could sleep? I tossed, and I turned, and I relived my conversation with James, and cringed at every stupid word I had uttered (which in my recollection was every word), and considered getting up to (pardon the gross factor) puke my guts out, I felt so nauseous. And at 12:15 am, the phone rang. As wide awake as I was at 12:15 that afternoon, I leaped out of the bed, grabbed the phone, turned the light on (not an easy feat in the dark, I have one of those ceiling lights with the hanging switch), turned off my fan, and yelled my sister's name at the top of my lungs. I took a deep breath, looked at the phone, and hit the on button at the end of the second ring. "Hello?" () "Hello, this is James Marsters, could I speak to Paula Carlson, please?" () "Hi, this is Paula." "Hi, I'm sorry to be calling you so late, but I wanted to get back to you, and, thank you for the invitation, it sounds like a lot of fun, but to tell you the truth," () "I'm just too damn lazy to get out of bed." Wow, he was talking to me like I was an actual person, and not just some psycho fan that accosted him in a parking lot! () I offered some, "Oh, that's alright, we knew it was a long shot anyway," just grateful - good god, amazed, stunned, almost speechless! - that he'd called, as he continued, "I haven't even been to bed yet, and I'd have to get up at 8 or 9, and I just don't think I could do it." He was apologizing TO ME! My heart is thumping all over again just remembering it. So he told me to have fun at the breakfast, and he'd probably see me tomorrow, and we said good night and hung up. And this whole conversation took place while I was sitting on my bed. () And that was just Saturday.
