Part One
Despite the fact that Nicholas was not expected at the convention until
Sunday, I went on Saturday as well because according to the website, there
would be a raffle on Saturday for a backstage pass to meet Nick. My sister
and I arrived at 1:30 on Saturday afternoon and got ourselves a schedule. At
around 1:30:25, I started hyperventilating because according to the schedule,
surprise guest JAMES MARSTERS would be doing his Q&A at 2:00. (!!!)
The huffing and puffing was getting on my sister's nerves, so I started
looking for my Bronzer bud Monique – despite the fact that we'd never met and
I had very little idea of what she looked like - since she was someone who
would understand my physiological distress. Completely by accident, I heard her
voice from somewhere behind me after only searching for about five minutes – big
yay for coincidences! Big hugs and intros (Little Sister, my sister; Phantom Denis,
Monique's fiance), then we headed over to the auditorium for the big event.
Since we hadn't expected anyone momentous to be there on Saturday, neither
of us had reserved seats, so we were stuck in the way back of the room. We were
standing near the entrance to the reserved section, waiting for James to appear
magically on stage, when my sister started tapping my shoulder. Irritated to be
distracted from the stage, I turned and snapped, "What?!" She smugly pointed over
her shoulder, where James was emerging from a little room in the back – just
15 feet from us. Gaping, I reached behind me and started tapping
(okay, hitting) Monique. She was ignoring me, so I turned
and whispered (hissed, really), "Look!" We both watched in
stunned amazement as James passed within 6 feet of us and headed for the stage.
