Part Fourteen
"Oh, of course!" James said, looking a little surprised. (Surprised
he hadn't thought of it himself, or surprised that I'd be so bold as to ask??)
"Nick!" he called, turning as he spoke, apparently unaware that Nicky was right
behind him. Unfortunately, we caught the poor man just as he'd stuck a large piece of
cantaloupe between his teeth, and he looked like a deer in headlights.
The look on his face was purely Xander as he tried to smile around the fruit and say
"hi" at the same time. He sheepishly took the cantaloupe from his mouth and
wiped his hand on his leg before extending it to me. Giddy (emphasis on giddy
- for all those people who think I maintained semi-intelligent conversation with James,
this is where it failed me), I shook his hand and said, "Hi, I'm
Paula. You won't remember that, but that's okay." He shook his head as if
to assure me he would remember, forever and ever if need be (okay,
I'm seriously projecting here) as he said, "Paula. Got it. Nice
to meet you."
"Actually," I told him, "I've been in contact with your agent all
week. Well, your agent's assistant, actually, Colleen, she's very nice. I was
just inviting you to our Bronze breakfast, but obviously, you couldn't go." (*sigh*
there must be some kind of medicine for this
) He gave a half smile
that seemed to say, Yeah, well, you know
as he took a bite of his (very
lucky) fruit.
(I never knew I had such prejudices about actors, cause my first instinct was to
assume that meant - Please, a fan breakfast? I have got to kill that little
impulse, since it wasn't until much later that I realized it probably just meant
Having just walked in the door, breakfast was pretty much out of the question.
I'm such a bad person.
James jumped in with, "That's right, I called this poor girl after midnight
last night about the breakfast that you didn't go to." I get all
teary-eyed just remembering James scolding Nicky on my behalf.
We were then interrupted by the event people pulling Nick away for his Q&A, and we
were alone again w/ James. (and once again I forgot to introduce my sister).
"We should probably go too, give you some time before the autographs," I said
reluctantly no need to explain why. *g* We were about to say our goodbyes,
then Chris brought in some people (I think they worked w/, or for, him) for James to meet,
and of course I noticed that little Spike was still naked, so we hung around while James
chatted with Chris' friends.
They said their goodbyes, then I pointed out little Spike for James. He picked up a
marker and started to write. I was very impressed with how well it came out, and it
actually looked like his other signatures "James Marsters, Spike". Then
he asked if he could draw little fangs on it as if I'd have denied him
anything! He was so cute, showing us his handiwork.
Then James stood up and offered another picture, of just the two of us. He turned to
Chris w/ his arm around me and told Nancy, "Here, take this picture, like we're
boyfriend and girlfriend, just casual." (THUD!) So we
pretended to chat w/ Chris with our arms around each other while Nancy took the picture.
Then the flash didn't go off, so we had to do another, while James said to Chris,
"My girlfriend is going to kill me!" I promised to put a disclaimer on any
pictures I actually posted, which you can see here.
We were gathering our stuff together, putting the comic book and little Spike back in
his bag, when Chris insisted, "James, show them your scar." (!!)
