My first Flash class

So I had my first Flash class this week at UCLA. I must be getting older than I thought, ’cause I don’t remember three hour classes being that exhausting.

But anyway, the homework assignment is to plot out the final project. Personally, I think it’s a bit soon to be thinking final project when it’s only the second week and I’m still not 100% certain how much we’ll be able to learn in the next three months, but fortunately, I have my boss helping me out. He’s a Flash expert, so he sat me down and wrote out a list of the different elements he thought were essential to learn, and which therefore should be included in the project. Coming up with an actual cohesive project, though, was a bit harder. We got a little grand in our brainstorming, actually getting as far as plotting a subsite for the Gtty with about 150 pages, until we came back to earth and realized that probably wasn’t the best route to go for a class project. So now our broader goal is to come up with a small, 3-5 page project where I can load as many of his list of elements as possible, just so I can learn the basics first.

Red Sox Nation West

I might not have what it takes to be a full-season baseball fan. I’ve been listening to the games at my desk, and there we were, game three of the season, and I felt sick to my stomach. The Red Sox had already lost the first two games to the Evil Empire, and they were doing well, tied for the third game, until Timlin blew it in the eighth (not that I have anything bad to say about nailing Jeter in the head). Sure, Rivera completely fell apart in the ninth, handing us the win on a five-run silver platter, but for a while there, I was sure I was gonna throw up.

I’m hoping this angst is only because it’s the Yankees, ’cause there’s no way I can do that every game, otherwise I’ll be a basket case by May (and probably a major stockholder in Tums).

On the bright side, I don’t think I’ll ever be afraid of Rivera ever again.

I wonder if the boss will let me take Monday off to watch the boys get their World Series rings?

There goes the weekend

My weekend was a whirlwind of getting up at the crack of dawn and going all day for two straight days, followed by a day of sloth.

To quickly sum up the past three days:
Joshua Tree National Park: Fabulous, even though I couldn’t do even the tiniest bit of climbing.
Dinner with CG: Fun, relaxing, but short, ’cause we were both exhausted and both had to get up at the crack of dawn the next morning.
Train to/from San Diego: So!much!better! than driving, and much prettier scenery. Might have to go back and see San Clemente up close and personal.
San Diego: Too short, but still had a wonderful lunch with DL, JQ and kim!.
A’s birthday dinner: Fun, relaxing, sparkly, heavily caffeinated, and tummy expanding yummy.
Sunday Slothday: Totally chilled – did laundry, watched MacGyver and Buffy dvds, read some Foxtrot, played with the cats, napped some, then watched tv until bedtime. I didn’t get to the dishes, but that’s nothing new.

What I learned this weekend:
+Jesse is cool.
+Hansen’s cakes are still the!best!
+My yarn bins make excellent ottomans.
+The orange line trolley doesn’t run nearly as often as I’d thought.
+I should still be icing my knee, even two months after the initial injury.
+Crunchy things on a salad are not necessarily a bad thing.
+”Very Spicy Shrimp” is, sadly, a relative term.
+MacGyver will even hit on a woman grieving for her dead sister, big ol’ man-ho that he is. Also, he needs to take krav.
+”To Serve Man is a cookbook.” Actually, I knew that one, but had forgotten.
+Rock climbers do not climb rope, they climb rocks.
+I’m too old to do 20 hour days anymore.
+Union Station needs more elevators.
+Chris Golden’s new book comes out tomorrow: Wildwood Road
+The daughter of an old family friend lives on my street, just two blocks away. Small!freakin’!world!

I’m sure there’s more, but I’ve got to get back to work now.
🙂

Ok, I give up.

I’m tired of deleting the spam comments, and getting emails about attempted hacks, so I’m disabling comments. Granted, I’m probably pushing away my only audience by doing so, but, don’t care. Comments are history.

So let it be written, so let it be done.
