Happy anniversary, Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

Today is the 14th anniversary of the premier episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the show that changed my life. To commemorate the occasion, I’m watching “Welcome to the Hellmouth” and “The Harvest”–not always an easy task. David’s acting is atrocious, Angel is a wussy vamp who lets Buffy get the drop on him the first time they meet, Darla is whiny, childish, and subservient not just to the Master, but to Luke as well. These are not the vamps we come to know and love, that’s for sure. The rest of the group are remarkably consistent to the characters we grew to love, though, so kudos to them for grasping their alter egos so quickly and easily. The music and special effects, OTOH…. Well, they certainly improved by leaps and bounds by season two!

Anyways, in memory of the first time TV Buffy was unleashed on the world, here’s a promo from that very first episode:

The upside of spam

For some reason this blog is getting tons more spam comments than my knitting blog. On the bright side, though, it reminds me that hey, I need to post here more often!

Right now I’m sitting on my couch, basking in the sun streaming from the window, listening to the soft breathing of Zeva sleeping next to me, and trying to motivate myself to dry my hair. I have to leave soon to meet my tax accountant, and I’m terribly nervous about it. Claris, she who referred me, assures me he is a magic man who is well worth the $300, but what if I’m a special case that he can’t help and I end up shelling out the $300 PLUS a gazillion extra tax dollars? What if all the prep work I did for the past two weeks was all wrong and he has to start from scratch? What if…. What if…. Yeah, I’m a master at the what if.

ION, from my position on the couch I can see the blanket and three scarves that I need to photograph and blog about, so y’all can see that I haven’t been just lazy lately. Soon, my pretties, soon….

Is anyone else horrified by the price of gas these days?

Seriously, WTF?! Fortunately it’s not that high outside of downtown….yet. The $3.78 from my neighborhood gas station is still pretty high, though.

Charlaine Harris and Harper Connelly

Grave Secret (A Harper Connelly Mystery)

I went googling to find out when the next Harper Connelly book is coming out, only to learn that Charlaine Harris has no plans for any further Harper stories–sadness!

To be honest, I don’t know why I like those books–they’re kinda dark (in a dreary, colorless sense), there isn’t much humor, and the relationship between the two main characters squicks me. And yet, love them to pieces and want more!more!more!

In related news, CBS is developing a new series based on the books, but adaptations are so iffy, they can go either way. I suspect the new show, whenever (if ever) it airs, will just annoy me.
