Roxette!

Mock all you like, but I was a huge Roxette fan in the ’90s–I had all their cds, and their Joyride concert is still the best concert I’ve ever been to. So of course when I got the email from Goldstar informing me they were coming to L.A. and that I could see them for a mere $20, I didn’t hesitate and bought two tickets immediately. Woo!

I saw them last night at the Gibson Amphitheater at Universal City (alone, sadly, but with a full amphitheater of other excited fans), and yes, they were still awesome! Scarily older of course, but awesome! (Well, Marie was older for sure–I swear Per must have a scary Dorian-Gray-esque portrait hiding somewhere! Damn men.) Marie couldn’t hit the high notes quite as easily as she used to, but unlike other aging singers, she planned accordingly, changing some of the faster songs to lower notes and saving her reaches for the slower ballads. They played all the old favorites, plus a few I didn’t recognize. It was a great time with a high energy audience, and while sometimes Marie looked like she was in physical pain up there on stage (seriously, I’m thinking her back had to be killing her or something), she and the others all looked like they were having the time of their lives.

Such a good time, and now I totally have to go looking for more recent cds that I don’t have yet. Yay Roxette!
