Wow, I just keep slacking on the updates, don’t I?

Today is December 13th, which would’ve been my 11th anniversary at WGA had I stayed. I hope everyone there is happy and healthy. I think of them often during the holidays—some of my favorite holiday parties were held there, and some of my best Secret Santa ideas were born and raised there. My personal favorite will always be Chabraland, the board game based on the life and times of the then-Controller. The game itself was boringly simple, but it wasn’t designed to be competitive—it was a chance to poke fun at every single employee all at once, and be applauded for doing so. It’s just as well that the Secret Santa tradition ended that year, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to top Chabraland.

It’s been awhile since I’ve had the time or motivation to engage in that kind of creativity. I haven’t written any poetic parodies in years, as evidenced by the thick coat of dust on my well-thumbed rhyming dictionary. Perhaps I shall add that to my New Year’s List of Resolutions, right after “Learn something new,” which itself is doing a repeat performance after the success of last year (witness my knitting obsession).

In other news, I’m heading home to beautiful Boston soon, and while I always look forward to my annual pilgrimage, I already miss my cats. They have no clue that soon I’ll be leaving, and their only human contact will be their Auntie K dropping by to feed them. I hope Jack doesn’t spend the whole time hiding under the bed like last year. Someday I’ll be financially secure enough to be able to bring them with me, but this isn’t that day.

That’s it for today, it’s time to get back to work. I’ve been working on the next big exhibition opening in February, and so far I’m really enjoying it. I’m learning a lot about Napoleon and the French Revolution, and it’s making me want to learn more. Anyone know any good books about either of those topics that won’t put me to sleep before the end of the first chapter?

Has it really been over two weeks since my last post? Oops.

Huh, let’s see, what’s new? My back injury has almost completely disappeared, so I’m back to kicking and punching at krav and kickboxing, and I’ve even got the bruises under my jawline to prove it. (Those damn choke holds!) My knitting obsession is moving right along, given that Christmas is only four and a half weeks away. (I’m thinking this will be the only year of knitted gifts, it’s way too stressful when you’re as slow at it as I am.) My Christmas shopping is nearly completed, thanks to a marathon session of online shopping this past Sunday. I moved my couch last week, which is really only exciting if you’re one of my cats – so far they’re big fans of the change. I’m still stuck at the docks in the Buffy X-Box game, thanks to those damn sirens – they keep dropping me into the ocean, and apparently Buffy can’t swim. Who knew?

I know, I’m boring. It’s weird, when I’m driving into work, I can think of a million things I want to post about, but once I’m sitting at the computer, they all just vanish. *sigh*

Oo! So I’m thinking of flying out to Arizona for a weekend at the end of March to watch the Red Sox play the Diamondbacks during Spring Training. If it happens, it’ll be the first time I’ve ever travelled anywhere for a sporting event. It’s odd, when I lived in Massachusetts, I couldn’t really have cared less about *any* sport, except maybe basketball, but since I’ve moved to L.A., I’ve become a Red Sox fanatic, almost to Buffy levels of fanaticism. They’ve even been making guest appearances in my dreams. Freaky. I considered flying home for opening day, but it’ll be getting too close to my New Orleans trip by then.

Ok, I’m just rambling now, so I’m just gonna say, Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! May your turkey be juicy, may your team win (Go Medford!), may you remember to watch the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special. However you celebrate, enjoy it to the fullest.

Pickin’ myself up, dustin’ myself off

So, the election didn’t go my way. Devastating, but not the end of the world (I hope – the jury’s still out on that one). I’ve still got the Red Sox Championship to keep me warm and glowy at night, and I’ll just keep clinging to that for as long as I can. And in the spirit of that, I have found for you Don’t Blame Me, I’m from Red Sox Nation T shirts and bumper stickers. Woo! Buy them for your friends and loved ones, and if you find any for California residents, let me know.

Love's BitchAnd since Christmas is coming very quickly, you should also buy Love’s Bitch T shirts etc., ’cause I could use the income to purchase presents for my own friends and loved ones. 😀 Yep, it’s all about me.

Overwhelmed and under-medicated

I would like to go to sleep for a week, please. Except for the part where then I’d miss my chance to vote.

My back is killing me, and I can barely stand up straight. I’ve had a cold since Sunday, and it’s making me oh so tired. The election is four days away, and the fear of the wrong outcome is giving me an ulcer. And yet, my beloved Red Sox made history this week (and this month), more than once – first MLB team to come back and win from a 0-3 deficit; first team to win eight straight in the postseason; first championship title in 86 years; first pitcher to win three clutch games in three straight series (Lowe). How do I love thee? I can’t even count the ways. It’s an overwhelming week, and I’m feeling numb from it all. And ouchy, from the back pain. Oh, and bitterly disappointed to learn Varitek is married. *sigh*

If anyone is interested in what an ex-Mutant Enemy writer is up to, I’ve made a ton of updates to JaneEspenson.com this week, including a “Vote for Kerry” popup. (She’s a Kerry supporter! Yay!) Not many updates to *this* site yet, but I’ve been prepping some new photos to put up soon – and not just kitty photos, either. Also, I’ve updated the Love’s Bitch online store, so feel free to go and spend lots of money. 😀

Work’s been slow this week, which has allowed me to uncover some share-able links:

LittleBeasts.com is an adorable website involving the many antics of two Boston Terriers named Bergamot and Emrys. Check out the features page in particular, it’s got some clever time-killers in there. Perhaps it’s time Trouble and Jack had their own website…

If you haven’t seen Hello yet, you’ve been missing out. Kerry, Bush and friends singing their own version of a beloved Queen hit – what more could a person ever want for in life?

On the more serious side, Eminem’s Mosh video is a brilliant strategy to get today’s youth to get out and vote already. Go to iFilm.com and search for “Mosh”. Warning, though – if you’re a Bush supporter, you’re not gonna like it.

As you all know, Tuesday is election day. Make sure you vote, there’s nothing more important than voting. For information on what to bring, where to go, what the hell to do, check out Rock the Vote, it looks like they’ve got every angle covered, including a printable list of voting tips.

That’s all I’ve got for now, must go find some Alleve for my back.

Oh, except, tomorrow is Stephanie’s birthday – HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEPHANIE! May Robin and Mickey appear at your door first thing in the morning to do your bidding!
