Huh.

I don’t understand the point of spamming my journal with words that have been asterisked out. How lame.

TGIF

Last week I added a new page to the site, Knitting Stuff. It replaces the Political Stuff page, ’cause ever since the election, I’ve been too discouraged to update that page. My sister wants to know why I’m spending time creating new pages instead of updating the old ones, to which I say, that’s a good question. I’ll see what I can do about that.

The knee is finally getting better, six weeks later. I still can’t use it on stairs, but the limp is almost gone, halleluja! The lack of kickboxing and krav has been driving me nuts, so I’ve started using a pilates tape to get some degree of exercise in, and now that I’m walking better, I might try some of that this weekend too—walking, that is. This stupid injury put a serious crimp in my plans to look and feel at least a little better before the New Orleans trip, so I have a lot of hard core catching up to do, while simultaneously trying not to agitate the still healing injury. Woo! My life, she is exciting!

In other news, Angels tickets finally go on sale tomorrow morning! YAY! I’ve been checking every day for two months now, but for some reason they waited until about a month after most of the other teams had already started selling their tickets. Not that I care about the Angels, of course, but the Red Sox are coming in August for four games, and I’ve been saving my pennies in the hopes of getting seats at all four. Mom will be visiting at the same time, and she’s very graciously agreed to go with me, should I succeed in my quest. RED SOX! WOO!

Let’s see, what else? Saw all five Best Picture Oscar noms this year, for the first time ever. I thought Million Dollar Baby totally deserved the award, and I loved the film, but my personal favorite was Finding Neverland, which you should go see as soon as you possibly can.

Oo, also also, you should read A Promise to my Grandfather: A Follow Up, because it’s a beautiful story and will only take you about five minutes. Also, have kleenex handy.

Finally, last night, amid some rather horrible nightmares, I had a marvelous dream that my Uncle Paul came to L.A. for a surprise visit. So Uncle Paul, you’ll get right on that, yes?
🙂

Ok, that’s it for now. Hugs.

Rain rain go away

I’m back at the office today, despite the fact that the knee isn’t getting much better, but the doctor didn’t want me to take more than a week of rest. Something about how “movement is life.”

The rain can stop anytime now. As I predicted, my windows started leaking again as soon as it started raining again. Patching up the holes doesn’t change the fact that the water is getting into the walls, so of course the water is once again punching through the plaster and paint. Woo! Fun times in Los Angeles, yessiree.

I’ve got nothing else, I’m afraid. Spending week after week on the couch trying to coax an injury to heal already, goddammit! doesn’t give me much to share with others, unless you want to hear about the two and a half books I finished, the completed poncho or half-completed scarf, or the season of Angel I zipped through. Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Bah!

So I went and popped the fibula head again, when I stepped off the shuttle bus at work last week. I’m back on the cane, back to working at home for another week, *plus* the PT insists I have to swear off krav and kickboxing for at least a month, even if it seems to heal faster than that. Actually I think he wants me to abstain longer than that, but I’m holding firm at a month unless time (and pain) convinces me otherwise. He thinks I should try yoga in the meantime, but both the krav center and the dojo only offer it once a week, and at inconvenient times. I might have a yoga tape in the closet somewhere, though, so maybe I can at least give it a try.

In other news….Well, there is no other news. This stupid injury is taking over my life. How boring.

You’d think with all the sitting around I’ve been doing, I’d’ve posted more updates.

So it turned out to not be the meniscus, but instead a dislocated fibulla? tibia? I dunno, some bone. I hobbled around on a cane for a week and a half before the physical therapist properly diagnosed it and presumably fixed it. I say presumably because while yes, the pressure in my knee is now gone, the pain is taking longer to go away, due to all the irritation and swelling in all the parts around the dislocated area. Fortunately my bosses rock and the let me work from home this week on a company-loaned laptop, which I’m typing on this very moment while sitting on my couch and watching Buffy dvds. I sooooo need a laptop of my own! Also fortunately, I’d ordered DSL right before the injury, which helps with the whole working from home thing. Woo DSL!

Anyway, I’m up right now at 4:30 in the morning because somehow, even though I’ve seen hardly anyone all week, I managed to catch a pain in the ass of a cold, which is making me cranky as well as keeping me from sleeping. Question is, do I continue to sit here watching Buffy, or do I get in my car at 4:35 in the morning in search of Benadryl, NyQuil, or maybe a rubber mallet to whack myself over the head? Right now, the couch is winning.
